Video game Mass Effect Andromeda hit shelves this week plagued by visual glitches and phony dialogue. With developers eager to make a quick buck and turnaround times advancing, it’s not uncommon for modern video games to be released with issues which are solved later (as of publication, no animation issues have been addressed) but the issue lies politically with this game.
Mass Effect Andromeda has been accused of having an agenda. Sam Maggs, who works for the game’s developer BioWare – owned by Electronic Arts – has already made a name for herself after claiming she was “virtually raped” thanks to an unauthorised modification while playing Grand Theft Auto V.
Sam Maggs, a self-professed feminist, has been accused of using her personal Social Justice Warrior (SJW) liberation to make the females in the game look plain. The males however, are handsome and sculpted. Bioware have been suspected of attempting to de-sexualise the featured women, this is fair enough, but to bow to the hypocrisy of leaving the males looking like supermodels isn’t. The game also features homosexual relationships. Featuring random homosexuality in media is now a thing, with the live-action Beauty and the Beast film also containing a gay scene. I’m not complaining about homosexuals, but placing random relationships like that is for no other reason goes beyond supporting LGBT rights, it’s pushing an agenda.
BioWare’s other game “Dragon Age” was also victim to SJW pandering when it removed its principal “desire demon” as it objectified women.
One of the games animators Allie Rose-Marie Leost was apparently harassed for the visual errors featured in ME: Andromeda. BioWare responded on Twitter with a statement that she was misidentified as a lead member of the development team. However, a simple look at the archive of her LinkedIn (current profile here) and Instagram profiles reveal she herself claimed to be lead animator. It’s bad to place all the blame on one person.
Then you have Mass Effect’s designer Manveer Heir who has, on many occasions, claimed to hate white people. One of the archived tweets from that post reads “Some people think America’s past-time is baseball, but it’s actually protecting white fragility”. Stating that every issue lies with the “priveleged straight white man” is racism. Racism goes both ways. That’s for another article.
