The UK Government has called on the United Nations to change the wording of “Pregnant woman/women” to “pregnant person” over fears it excludes transgenders.

The government’s official submission on proposed amendments to the International Covenant on Civil and Political rights. The UK has been a signatory since 1976.

The UN treaty’s wording that “pregnant women” should be protected and exempt from the death penalty is said to be unfair to transgender people, but the reality is that if you’re pregnant, you have a female reproductive system.

Several transgender activists have come out against the idea, saying it goes too far. Naturally, many have praised the UK governments claims.
